COIR CARPET FLOORING PERTH

Coir carpets are made from coconut husk fibres. Possibly the oldest form of natural plant covering that is used for floors, coir is strong and durable. It’s a great natural alternative to sisal and other softer forms of natural flooring, particularly for areas that receive high foot traffic.

The coconut husk is soaked in fresh water for a few months and then beaten to soften the cellulose fibres, which are then spun by hand. The final product is a hardy, durable and aesthetic coir rug.

Coir flooring can be laid throughout the house like traditional carpets, but because it’s so versatile it can also be used as rugs and mats due to its strength and tightly woven composition.

Coir rugs are imported from India and available in ribbed natural, or natural herringbone.  Contact us for more information.

Advantages of coir rugs:

  • Coir is a natural product made with minimal processing, while still retaining its strength and durability.
  • Provides heat insulation and reduces both energy bills and noise pollution.
  • Not susceptible to mildew and damp.
  • Will fade slightly when exposed to strong sunlight producing softer hues, which are often more attractive than the original.
  • Resistant to insects.
  • Easy to maintain.
  • Does not harbour bacteria and is safe for asthma sufferers and those with allergic conditions.
  • It produces a slip-resistant, non-skid surface, which helps to prevent accidents.

An environmentally-responsible choice for your flooring, coir is 100% biodegradable and a completely sustainable resource.
